CRYING
OUT TO GOD

It
is from prayer that the spirit's victory springs.
~
Schillerbuch ~
Hear
my cry, O God; listen to my prayer. From
the ends of the earth I call to you, I call as my heart grows faint; lead me to
the rock that is higher than I. Psalm 61:1-2
Perhaps
none of us can go through life without times when we walk in darkness and
despair. The Psalmist repeatedly
cries out to God. In crying to God
we find He is always with us and often as we cry out we release our cares to
Him. We allow Him control and we
find relief and peace... and maybe we find a deeper trust in God and His plan
for us.
WALKING
IN THE VALLEY
Thunderclouds
gather across the sky
The
light changes to yellow and gray.
Skeins
of rain move on the mountains
Shimmering
mists rising and falling.
Across
the valley's burnt grass
Vines
hang from the bare trees.
Mist
darkens their branches and muddies the path,
As
frightening and dim it lies shrouded in fog.
Slipping
and sliding, tripping and falling,
Down
this frightening way this day I must pass.
Lost
and alone, I walk through the mist.
Sorrows
assail and pain pierces my heart.
Why
have You brought me to this place, Lord?
I
struggle on through the shadows, seeking to find the Light.
Oh
Lord, I cry, "take my hand! I
cannot go alone!"
And
I come at last to a place of quiet rest and peace.
Lord,
it is Your hand that kept my foot from slipping.
It
is Your grace that brought me safely through.
How
often in the darkest night, Your light alone will shine?
How
often on the perilous climb, Your hand holds onto mine?
How
often when I seek You, in Your Word and oft in prayer,
I
find comfort in the stillness, for You are with me there.

In
the song, No One Ever Cared for Me Like Jesus, by Charles F. Weigle, we sing of
the love Jesus has for us.
No
one ever cared for me like Jesus, There's no other friend so kind as He;
No
one else could take the sin and darkness from me--O how much He cared for me!
Praise
God for this love which doesn't forsake us and holds onto us when all seems
lost.
God
will not permit any troubles to come upon us, unless He has a specific plan by
which great blessing can come out of the difficulty.

SCRIPTURE
REFERENCE
In
my distress I called to the LORD; I called out to my God. From his temple he
heard my voice; my cry came to his ears. 2 Samuel 22:7
![]()
My
God, my God, why have you forsaken me? Why are you so far from saving me, so far
from the words of my groaning? O my
God, I cry out by day, but you do not answer, by night, and am not silent.
Yet you are enthroned as the Holy One; you are the praise of Israel.
Psalm 22:1-3
![]()
To
you I call, O LORD my Rock; do not turn a deaf ear to me. For if you remain
silent, I will be like those who have gone down to the pit.
Hear my cry for mercy as I call to you for help, as I lift up my hands
toward your Most Holy Place. Psalm 28:1-2
![]()
I
called on your name, O LORD, from the depths of the pit.
You heard my plea: "Do not close your ears to my cry for
relief." You came near when I
called you, and you said, "Do not fear." Lamentations 3:55-57
![]()
Out
of the depths I cry to you, O LORD; O Lord, hear my voice. Let your ears be
attentive to my cry for mercy. If
you, O LORD, kept a record of sins, O Lord, who could stand? But with you there is forgiveness; therefore you are feared.
I wait for the LORD, my soul waits, and in his word I put my hope.
Psalm 130:1-5

In
the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought
to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words
cannot express. And he who searches
our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the
saints in accordance with God's will.
Romans
8:26-27

He
will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or
crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away. Revelation 21:4

GOD
ENTERS INTO OUR SUFFERING
In
all their affliction he was afflicted, and the angel of his presence saved them:
in his love and in his pity he redeemed them; and he bare them, and carried them
all the days of old. Isaiah 63:9
KJV
In
the Old Testament, we find the idea that God enters into the sufferings of His
people. "In all their
afflictions, He was afflicted." The
relation of God to the woes of the world is not that of a mere spectator.
The New Testament goes further, and says that God is love.
But that is not love which, in the presence of acute suffering, can stand
outside and aloof. The doctrine
that Christ is the image of the unseen God means that God does not stand
outside. ~ B. H. Streeter ~

PRAYER
Father,
As
we walk down the difficult paths of this life may we never forget that You are
there when we cry out to You. You
hear our prayers and even our groaning when we do not know what to pray.
You know our pain and understand our sorrow.
Even when we cannot see Your hand it is there holding us and keeping our
feet from slipping. Thank You,
Lord, for Your faithfulness.
In
Jesus name,
Amen

GOD'S
POWER IS MADE PERFECT IN WEAKNESS
"If
you can do anything . . . ."
It
takes the valley of humiliation to remove the skepticism from us. Look back at
your own experience and you will find that until you learned who Jesus really
was, you were a skillful skeptic about His power. When you were on the
mountaintop you could believe anything, but what about when you were faced with
the facts of the valley? You may be able to give a testimony regarding your
sanctification, but what about the thing that is a humiliation to you right now?
The last time you were on the mountain with God, you saw that all the power in
heaven and on earth belonged to Jesus -- will you be skeptical now, simply
because you are in the valley of humiliation? ~~~Oswald Chamber, My Utmost for His
Highest

THE
LORD IS MY STRENGTH
The
LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear?
the LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?
Psalm 27:1 KJV
Only
he who can say, "The Lord is my strength," can say, "Of whom
shall I be afraid?"

Sometimes
the most important thing in a whole day is the rest we take between two deep
breaths, or the turning inwards in prayer for five short minutes.
